PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick took a pay cut and had to compete for his job when he returned to the Eagles. Part of the choice had to do with the up-tempo offence mapped out by new coach Chip Kelly. "I just thought," Vick said, "this was the best opportunity, the best fit for me." Turns out, Vick was the best fit for Kelly. With his first chance to put his stamp on Philadelphias offence, Kelly named Vick the starting quarterback on Tuesday, giving the veteran the nod over Nick Foles after a sterling effort in the preseason. "Hes our starter for the season," Kelly said.

This is Arencibias first year in Texas after a four-year stint with the Toronto Blue Jays that ended on uneasy terms. Arencibia had a .194 batting average last season and was granted free agency. Chris Gimenez was promoted to replace Arencibia.
Put your socks back on, turn off your calculators and no need to study up on the law of probability after Costa Rica followed up their demolition of Uruguay with a thoroughly well-deserved victory over Italy, the 1966 World Cup winners can pack their bags for home. You have to go all the way back to Sweden 1958 for the last time England was knocked out of a World Cup at the Group Stage. At least then England went into their third and final group game against the Soviet Union knowing even a draw may have been enough to reach the knockout stage.
DENVER -- Matt Duchene was simply going for a cross-ice pass. A fortunate bounce turned it into the winning goal. The Colorado forward didnt know it until the roar of the crowd clued him in. Duchene scored 2:33 into overtime, and Semyon Varlamov stopped 33 shots to lift the Avalanche to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night. "Were all pretty exhausted," Duchene said. "I felt like I was back in high school playing hockey, but those games are fun to win." Duchene got free after a nifty move in the corner and saw Ryan OReilly on the far side.

Barcelonas stumble ensured the same Atletico Madrid that ousted it from Europes top-tier competition would maintain the league lead with five more rounds to go, as it was level on points with Madrid but ahead on goal difference before it visited Getafe on Sunday.
