MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens tough guy George Parros has sustained his second fighting-related concussion of the season. Parros was stunned by a pair of late punches in a fight with Eric Boulton in Montreals 1-0 overtime road win over the New York Islanders on Saturday. Parros was wobbly getting to his feet, but skated off the ice on his own power. He didnt return to Saturdays game and was a scratch for Montreals 2-1 home loss to Florida on Sunday. Canadiens coach Michel Therrien confirmed after the game that Parros suffered a concussion and will be evaluated this week.
CHICAGO -- Baltimore third baseman Manny Machado will not be ready to play when hes eligible to return from the disabled list on Aug. 27. Machado sprained his right knee while taking a swing against the Yankees on Aug. 11. He dropped in a heap in the batters box and limped off the field, assisted by his manager and trainer. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said before Fridays game against the Chicago Cubs that there probably will be updates on Machado in the next two days. The 2013 Gold Glove winner is hitting .278 with 12 homes and 32 RBIs in 82 games.
IRVING, Texas - The Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive tackle Jerome Long after deciding against keeping the second-year player during rookie minicamp last month. The signing of Long on Tuesday came five days after Dallas released defensive end Anthony Hargrove, one of the players suspended in the New Orleans bounty scandal. Long was a seventh-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs last year and spent most of the season on their practice squad. Jacksonville signed Long before the season finale in 2012, but he didnt play.

HAMILTON - Solid goaltending from Jacob Markstrom helped the San Antonio Rampage beat the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-1 Monday in the American Hockey League. Markstrom made 30 saves and Colby Robak, Drew Shor, Dylan Olsen and Vincent Trocheck scored for the Rampage (22-21-8). Patrick Holland had the lone goal for the Bulldogs (22-23-5), who have lost seven of their last nine games. Robert Mayer stopped 26 shots in the losing effort. San Antonio opened on a power play as Robak took a pass from Greg Rallo and released a high, heavy shot over Mayers shoulder at 9:16 of the first period.
HAMILTON, Ont. -- The St. Johns IceCaps weathered a wild first period with the help of goaltender Jussi Olkinuora, before finding offensive inroads in the second. Olkinuora made 16 saves in the first period, and 30 overall, for his first professional shutout, as the IceCaps defeated Hamilton Bulldogs 3-0 Saturday in American Hockey League action. The goaltender deflected attention from his own accomplishment, and instead complimented his teammates on their recent form. "It feels good," said Olkinuora of his shutout. "But more importantly, it feels good to win again. Its a lot of fun.
SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Top-seeded Tommy Haas retired with a shoulder injury while losing 6-3, 3-2 to Paolo Lorenzi of Italy in the Brazil Open semifinals on Saturday. Haas said he "felt a lot of pain" in his right shoulder when he slammed his racket to the ground in frustration after losing his serve at 3-3 in the first set. He kept playing despite needing medical treatment several times, and finally gave up after going down another break in the second set. The 12th-ranked German said the pain was "getting worse during the match" and it didnt allow him to "compete the way" he wanted.

FONTANA, Calif. - Denny Hamlin will miss Sundays NASCAR race at Fontana due to a sinus infection. Hamlin was ruled out of his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota about 30 minutes before the start at the track where he crashed on the final lap of last years race. Sam Hornish Jr. will replace Hamlin, team President J.D. Gibbs says. Hornish was already at Fontana because Matt Kenseths wife was due to have their next child. Gibbs says Hamlin worried his sinus infection would affect his vision and his ability to drive.
