PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - New York Mets ace Matt Harvey threw a baseball for the first time since having elbow ligament-replacement surgery. With the largest media contingent in camp since Mets pitchers and catchers reported a week ago and with a group of fans lining the fence of a back field at New Yorks spring training complex Saturday, the right-hander threw 20 times from 60 feet to a bullpen catcher. "It was awesome," Harvey said. "I know it was 20 throws at 60 feet, but everything felt absolutely amazing. Ive got a lot of work to do.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis signed free agent centre Phil Costa on Thursday. The 6-foot-3, 302-pound Maryland alum started 20 games over the past four seasons with Dallas. Terms of the deal were not immediately available. Costa is likely to replace Samson Satele, who started the last two seasons with Indy. Satele was released in a cost-cutting move late last week. Costa was originally signed as an undrafted rookie in 2010, and eventually won the starting job.

Toronto at Winnipeg Optimism is high in Winnipeg. A new head coach, new quarterback and new attitude to start the 2014 season. But I am not sure if they have the personnel yet to compete at the highest level consistently. And come Thursday Night, they do have to compete against a quarterback in Ricky Ray that completed 77 per cent of his passes last year and had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 21-to-2. Drew Willy for Winnipeg is a complete unknown, so an immense advantage at quarterback for Toronto. Both teams are also unknown on defense.

BOSTON -- Chicago Cubs third baseman Mike Olt spent some of his childhood days in Fenway Park thinking about what it would be like to hit a homer over the Green Monster. He made that dream a reality Wednesday night. Olt, who grew up in Branford, Connecticut, attended UConn and made a nearly 2 1-2 hour trek to Boston a handful of times to watch the Red Sox, belted a two-run homer, one of four hit by Cubs in a 16-9 rout that completed a three-game interleague series sweep. "Id be lying if I said I didnt," Olt said when asked if he ever dreamed about hitting one over Fenways fabled wall.

NASHVILLE -- The Tennessee Titans have deactivated rookie wide receiver Justin Hunter against the Arizona Cardinals for what a team spokesman called a violation of team rules. Hunter, a second-round draft pick out of Tennessee, is coming off the best game of his career with 114 yards receiving in last weeks loss at Denver, and he has had two 100-yard games in his past three. The Titans also deactivated receiver Damian Williams, leaving Kenny Britt active. The Cardinals scratched tight end Rob Housler, who had been doubtful with an injured groin. Jake Ballard is starting in his spot.

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Pelicans and Louisiana-based Smoothie King have reached a 10-year agreement to rename the New Orleans Arena as the Smoothie King Center. Pelicans President Dennis Lauscha said such a deal had been a "gigantic" piece of owner Tom Bensons business plan since he bought the long-struggling small-market franchise from the NBA in the spring of 2012. "Finding a naming rights partner was key to the long-term financial viability of this franchise in this market," Lauscha said.
